User Services

User Services provides centralized and distributed user support, including technical support, training and consulting services for topics ranging from statistical analysis to Web publishing, and operates the ITS Help Desk and Student Microcomputer Facility (SMF). We provide on-site support and management services for departments and business units, which include computer information centers and student labs.

Help Desk

The Help Desk provides services by e-mail, by telephone, instant messaging, or on a walk-in basis. Staff members assist with most computing questions and arrange individual referrals when necessary, either with expert systems consultants who specialize in Unix, Windows, Macintosh, and desktop and networking systems; or with expert applications consultants who specialize in statistical, mathematical, database management, Web publishing, and desktop software applications, including thesis and dissertation templates. The Help Desk also provides carry-in troubleshooting service for software problems.

ID Center

The UT Austin ID Center provides students, faculty, staff, and official visitors with a university ID card and electronic identity in a prompt, accurate, and courteous manner. The ID card functions as an ID card, a UT library card, an access card for UT Residence Halls, and can be used for purchases using Bevo Bucks. You will need your driver’s license or a passport when you visit the ID Center to claim your UT ID card. The ID Center is located at the Information Desk on the first floor of the Flawn Academic Center. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. (512) 471-4334.
