Project: vDesk Virtual Desktops
The vDesk Phase II project currently provides approximately 300 virtual desktops to laboratories supported by ASE, CSE, ECE, ME, MSB, and ITS managed desktops in FAC, Nursing, and Law Library. The material resources supporting this project were supplied by an ITAC grant in the 2009-2010 funding cycle to investigate and deploy a “Campus-wide Virtual Desktop Infrastructure".
vDesk Phase 3 will focus on creating a governance committee approved cost model that supports long-term sustainability of the vDesk service, defining key points for further technology investment, and expanding the vDesk service to additional customers. Phase III goals are fixated on provide strategic direction to a mature service currently in operation.
Cost of service
The vDesk initiative, which includes 360 concurrent sessions, is funded through August 2013 by ITAC fees. The strategic governance committee will determine whether and how vDesk should be funded after that time.
