Adobe Connect Test Environment

For Adobe Connect subscribers who would like to try out Adobe Connect 8.2, there is a test environment. This site cannot be used for production purposes. It has production data as of late September 2011 available. It can be a useful resource for meeting hosts who want to test publishing content from Adobe Captivate or Adobe Presenter.

ActionScript Compatibility Issue

Note: Issue described below only applies to content published from Adobe Captivate or Adobe Presenter to Adobe Connect. It does not apply to content directly uploaded into the Adobe Connect portal or a meeting room.

Many Adobe products are based on Adobe's ActionScript programming language. Adobe Connect 8 is based on the latest version, ActionScript 3. Legacy versions of Adobe products are based on ActionScipt 2. Early versions of Adobe Connect 8 (from 8.0 to 8.1) supported ActionScript 2 and ActionScript 3 content 'published' to Adobe Connect 8 from legacy versions of Adobe Captivate and Adobe Presenter. Going forward, Adobe Connect 8.2 only supports ActionScript 3 content published from these applications.

Campus Adobe Connect Web Conferencing Service currently runs Adobe Connect 8.1. This will change to Adobe Connect 8.2 on January 7th, 2012.

Adobe Captivate (Mac, Windows) is an e-learning application which can be used to author software demonstrations, software simulations, branched scenarios, and randomized quizzes in the .swf file format. It can also convert Microsoft PowerPoint presentations into the Adobe Flash format. Files generated from Captivate can be published to Adobe Connect's Content library for use in meetings, etc.

Adobe Presenter (Windows only) is a PowerPoint plug-in that allows integration of audio, video, animation and quizzes into a PowerPoint file. Files generated from Presenter can be published to Adobe Connect's Content library for use in meetings, etc.

The following table associates Adobe Captivate and Adobe Presenter versions with the ActionScript version they are based on:

ProductActionScript 2.0 basedActionScript 3.0 based
Adobe Captivate 4.0X-
Adobe Captivate 5.0/5.5-X
Adobe Presenter 7.06 and earlierX-
Adobe Presenter 7.07-X

Note: If publishing new content to Adobe Connect 8.2, only ActionScript3-based content published from Adobe Captivate 5.0/5.5 or Adobe Presenter 7.07 is supported. For best results, Adobe recommends use of either Adobe Captivate 5.5 or Adobe Presenter 7.07.

Note:Existing content previously published to Adobe Connect from Adobe Captivate 4.0 or Adobe Presenter 7.06 (and earlier) should be replaced at the earliest time possible after the upgrade. While ActionScript 2 content may work fine initially, eventual failure of the content may result (Example: black boxes displayed where video should be). Adobe recommends recreating content and publishing from either Adobe Captivate 5.5 or Presenter 7.0.7 to Connect 8.2 for best results.
