Using Options to Expand Your Preferences

Webmail offers multiple ways to customize your e-mail and calendar using preference categories and options:


Global Options

From the top of the main Horde page, click the Options icon to access the Global Options page.

  • Personal Information—Select a default identity, create and edit identities for different Webmail accounts, and configure sent mail preferences.
  • Locale and Time—Select the language to use for viewing menus and descriptions. The language must be installed on your machine. Select a default time zone, which can be useful if you travel to a different location. Select the best way to display dates.
  • Categories and Labels—Create categories to use for calendars, notes and tasks.
  • Display Options—Select your preferences for the way you want Webmail to look, including color scheme, refresh rate, and menu display.
  • Login Tasks—Select whether to perform maintenance operations after you log on to Webmail. It is recommended that you keep both options on this page enabled.
  • Remote Servers—This option is not available for university Webmail access.
  • Rich Text Editor Options—Configure aspects of the Rich Text Editor, available when you compose e-mail messages.

Mail Options

From the top of the main Mail page, click the Options icon to access the Mail Options page.

  • Personal Information—Select a default identity for e-mail correspondence, create and edit identities for different e-mail accounts, create signature files, and configure sent mail preferences.
  • Server and Folder Information—Customize the folders to use for drafts, trash, and spam.
  • Login Tasks—Configure the view you want to display and the actions you want Webmail to perform after you log on to Webmail, such as archiving preferences for sent mail and the frequency that you want the trash purged.
  • Message Composition—Configure the defaults for creating and sending messages, such as HTML preferences, spell check, and the way draft messages are saved.
  • Message Viewing—Configure the defaults for viewing incoming messages, such as a filter for profanity, an option to remove attachments, and image blocking in HTML messages.
  • Deleting and Moving Messages—Configure the actions you want Webmail to take after you delete, move, or copy e-mail messages.
  • New Mail—Select the frequency and manner in which you want new e-mail notifications.
  • Mail Previews—Specify whether you want to enable message previews, where you can view the beginning of e-mail messages without opening them, and the amount of message you want to view in a preview.
  • Fetch Mail—Specify whether you want to access other e-mail accounts besides your default account through Webmail, and how to display messages from other accounts.
  • Mailbox and Folder Display Options—Select the default page to view when opening a mailbox, message sorting criteria, the way dates are displayed, and the way folders are displayed in the sidebar.
  • Search Options—Select the default search field Webmail uses when you search messages.
  • Filters—Set up multiple filtering rules that examine incoming e-mail and can block or allow e-mail addresses
  • Address Book—Configure the appearance of your address book in Webmail.

Calendar Options

From the top of the main Calendar page, click the Options icon to access the Calendar Options page.

  • User Interface—Specify the way you want your Webmail calendar to look.
  • Portal Options—Specify the time span you want Webmail to display in the calendar portal.
  • Tasks—Specify the way you want tasks to display in the Webmail calendar.
  • Default Calendar—Select the calendar you want to display.
  • Remote Calendar—This option is not available for university access.
  • Notifications—Specify whether you want to be notified via e-mail about certain calendar events.
  • Free/Busy Information—Set up information for your calendar contacts on your free and busy calendar time.
