Using Message Filters
Webmail supports e-mail filters, which can perform many actions on incoming messages. You can use filters to forward, redirect, move, copy, or delete e-mail messages. Webmail filters only work within the Webmail client. Filters do not transfer to other e-mail clients.
You also can use the blacklist and whitelist filters to block or allow specific e-mail addresses.
Setting up a Message Filter
- From the top of any Mail page, click the Filters icon to display the Filter Rules page.
- Click the New Rule button.
- Name your rule and specify the parameters for the filter. For example, you can set a filter for any incoming messages that contain the word "spam" in the subject line, which moves these messages into a folder you created called "Junk."
- Click the Save button after you set your rule preferences.
Running Message Filters
You can run filters manually by clicking the funnel icon in the title bar on the Inbox page.
To set Webmail to run filters automatically:
- From the top of any Mail page, click the Options icon to display the Options for Mail page.
- In the Other Options column, click the Filters link to display the Filter Settings page.
- In the Filter Options section, place checkmarks in the checkboxes for the automatic filter options you want to enable. You can configure Webmail to apply filters when you log on to Webmail or when the Inbox displays.
- Click the Save Options button to save your changes and return to the Options for Mail page.
Storing Message Filters
Your filter list is limited to a maximum size (64K) and stored in text format. Since the storage used varies with the length of the filter expression, you do not have a specific numerical limit to the number of filters you can create.
However, ITS recommends that you keep your filter list limited to well under 500 entries. If you attempt to store too many filters, it's possible that you can exceed the 64K size limit and erase your filters.
