Importing Address Book Contacts from a File
Complete the following steps to import e-mail address book contacts from a file:
- Click the Address Book icon under the Organizing section in the left sidebar.
- Click the Import/Export icon at the top of the screen to display the Import Address Book page.
- Select the format of the source file to import. You can select from comma-separated values, tab-separated values, vCard, Mulberry Address Book, or Pine Address Book. If you are uncertain of the format type, comma-separated values (CSV) is the most common format.
- Select the character set of the source file. If you are uncertain of the character set, Western (ISO-8859-1) is the most common type.
- Select the file you want to import. Click the Next button to display the next import screen.
- If you are importing a CSV file, determine whether the first row of the file contains field names instead of address data. If so, place a checkmark in the checkbox.
- Enter the delimiter and quote characters used in the file. For a CSV file, the delimiter is usually a comma, and the quote character is a double-quote (").
- Enter the number of fields the file contains. For a CSV file, each field is one column. Click the Next button to display the next import screen.
- Click the name of an Imported field, then click the corresponding Available field in Webmail. For example, if the imported field is "email address," you would click the Email field for Webmail to use. Repeat this step for all fields you want to import.
Note: If your e-mail program exported first, middle and last names, you can only import one Name field into Webmail. One way to solve this problem is to map the e-mail display name field in your CSV file to the Name field in Webmail. (The actual field name may vary in your CSV file.) - Click the Next button to save the field pairs and import your contacts. The message "File successfully imported" displays on the Import Address Book page.
