WebSpace

Technical Information

This page provides technical information about WebSpace.

Web Publishing

WebSpace lets you create basic Web pages. If you want to use server-side scripting (CGIs, PHP, PERL, Cold Fusion, or other technologies), you should use one of the other Web server publishing options on campus.

Security

WebSpace uses a secure connection to protect your UT EID and password. All WebSpace content is redirected to SSL to insure that all user names and passwords used for authentication are encrypted when sent over the network. SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol commonly used for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet.

WebDAV on Windows and Macintosh

WebSpace supports the WebDAV protocol for both Windows and Macintosh. WebDAV lets you connect your computer to your WebSpace folders so that your WebSpace folder looks like any other folder on your computer. This lets you transfer files more easily than you could using the file upload feature in the WebSpace interface.

File Storage

WebSpace provides 1 gigabyte of disk space for each eligible user. If you need additional space or additional features, ITS offers many other disk storage options. For information on ITS disk storage options on various systems, see Disk Storage.
