What Can I Do with WebSpace?

WebSpace provides a file storing and sharing environment to all UT Austin students, faculty, and staff. You can also use it to publish Web sites and much more.

Storing Files

Using WebSpace to store your files is great when you need to work on a file at home or on campus – no need to lug your laptop around, since you can access your WebSpace account from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

Your WebSpace account can store up to 1 GB of information. It's even approved by the Information Security Office (ISO) for Category-I data, so faculty and staff can store sensitive information there.

Sharing Files

Once you've uploaded files to WebSpace, you can share them in a variety of ways. If you're collaborating on a paper or a presentation for a class, you can share files with a specific group of people that you define. Faculty and staff members can share files with their colleagues around the world using WebSpace tickets, so you no longer have to send your grant proposals in clear text through e-mail. Once files or folders have been shared, your group members can view and download the file, and even make changes and upload their edits, depending on the level of access you specify.

NOTE: WebSpace displays student names, e-mail addresses, and UT EIDs through the share/search function. Students who restrict their data using the Registrar’s Restrict My Info tool are not findable using the share/search function.

Publishing Web Sites and ePortfolios

WebSpace allows you to publish personal Web sites. Students can create ePortfolios to showcase their coursework and projects, and faculty can publish material that complements courses they teach, or publish their CVs and list of publications. Create your HTML files, upload them, and share them with the world.
