Whether you’re sitting at work, trekking through the Andes Mountains, or rooting for the Longhorns from afar, take out your camera, get your horns up and say “cheese,” because The University of Texas at Austin wants to capture your alumni spirit and share what you’re doing to change the world.

The Office of Public Affairs has teamed up with the Texas Exes to create “Get Your Horns Up,” a user-generated, photo-sharing Web site especially for alumni. “Get Your Horns Up” provides a venue for alumni to share success stories and upload photos that show them with their horns up.

“This new Web site is a great way for alumni to display their Longhorn spirit through the tradition of the Hook ‘em, Horns hand sign, while sharing their accomplishments since graduation,” said Jim Boon, executive director of the Texas Exes.

For instance, Daniela del Castillo, a 2001 alumna from Georgetown, Texas, proudly rocks her Hook ‘em, Horns on top of a mountain in Peru, where she has spent time volunteering for a local organization.

“My time at The University of Texas at Austin instilled in me my love for taking my strengths and skills and using them to help others,” del Castillo said. “Since graduation, I have worked for two nonprofit organizations in Austin.”

Nirav Desai, a 2009 alumnus from Bombay, India, holds up his horns alongside orphaned children in Kenya, who also proudly display the Hook ‘em, Horns. “My goal was to extend the things I was learning as a University of Texas at Austin master’s student to an area larger than just myself,” Desai said.

So take out your camera, get your horns up and share what you’re doing to change the world at www.utexas.edu/opa/alumni.
