  • Campus attractions stay open during winter break

    The University of Texas at Austin is closed Tuesday, Dec. 22, through Sunday, Jan. 3, for winter break, but some campus attractions will remain open. Visit exhibitions at campus destinations such as the Harry Ransom Center, the Blanton Museum of Art and the Texas Memorial Museum, or take a tour of the university’s public art program, Landmarks.

    Harry Ransom Center
    The Ransom Center will be open:
    9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday
    9 a.m.-noon Saturday

    It will be closed on the following holidays:
    Christmas Eve Day — Thursday, Dec. 24
    Christmas Day — Friday, Dec. 25
    New Year’s Day — Friday, Jan. 1

    The Reading Room will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 22-Sunday, Jan. 3

    Exhibitions include:
    “From Out That Shadow: The Life and Legacy of Edgar Allan Poe”
    “Other Worlds: Rare Astronomical Works”
    “Frida Kahlo’s Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird”

    Blanton Museum of Art
    The Blanton Museum will be open:
    10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday
    11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
    1-5 p.m. Sunday

    It will be closed on the following holidays:
    Christmas Day — Friday, Dec. 25
    New Year’s Day — Friday, Jan. 1

    Exhibitions include:
    “Goya’s Prints: The Dawn of Modern Art”
    “Paolo Veronese: The Petrobelli Altarpiece Reconstructing a Renaissance Masterpiece”
    “Teresita Fernández: Blind Landscape”

    Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum
    The LBJ Library and Museum will be open:
    9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily

    It will be closed on the following holiday:
    Christmas Day — Friday, Dec. 25

    Texas Memorial Museum
    The Texas Memorial Museum will be open:
    9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday
    10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
    1-5 p.m. Sunday

    It will be closed on the following holidays:
    Christmas Eve Day — Thursday, Dec. 24
    Christmas Day — Friday, Dec. 25
    New Year’s Eve — Thursday, Dec. 31
    New Year’s Day — Friday, Jan. 1

    Perry-Castañeda Library
    The Perry-Castañeda Library will be open:
    8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily

    It will be closed during the following holiday weekends:
    Thursday, Dec. 24-Sunday, Dec. 27
    Friday, Jan. 1-Sunday, Jan. 3.

    Enjoy a tour of Landmarks, the university’s public art program, during the winter break. Download a campus map on the Landmarks Web site.

      I am so excited these places will be open during most of the holiday break. It is hard to visit everything during the semester, but I will definitely visit in early January!
