From a 1953 Alcalde: "Louis Baethe, business manager of The Association, and coed Kay Kelly, pose with The Association's newly painted 1953 Plymouth. The easily distinguished new car is now bright orange and white. Baethe, killing two birds with one stone, also demonstrates an Ex-Students' tie, which he sells for The Association."Photo courtesy of The Alcalde

Exactly 125 years ago — to the day — the Texas Exes formally established itself as the alumni association of The University of Texas at Austin. In celebration of its anniversary, the Texas Exes and the UT Heritage Society unveiled UT History Central, a Web site showcasing the history and traditions of the university.

The new site offers memories and gems, including recordings of yells from 1890-1910 that have not been heard on campus for more than 80 years, as well as unique trivia, anecdotes and little-known stories. Visitors may also enjoy songs from the 1940s that have been digitized, along with “The Cactus in Sound,” an effort that captured audio clips of life at the university during the 1951-52 academic year.

The site has been divided into three sections — explore, experience and celebrate — all of which include audio, visuals and video.

Visit UT History Central on the Texas Exes Web site.

This site is awesome! I have been trying to find out information regarding my grandfather's attendance at UT and he played on the football team and became a coach. My daughter is now attending UT and is on the Big 12 2010 Championship Rowing Team! Any suggestions on how to find some of this information? His name John Wesley Lowe, Sr. Thank you for all you do!

The caption under the photo of Louis Baethe and Kay Kelly includes a phrase "demonstrates an Ex-Students' ties" which sounds grammatically incorrect, unless I am missing something in the sentence structure. It's not a big deal, but as a proud Ex-Student (B.A. '60) I had to bring up that point.
