The University of Texas at Austin has been recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education as one of the “Great Colleges to Work For.” The survey is one of the largest workplace-recognition programs in the country, right behind Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

Of the 275 colleges that participated in the survey, 97 were selected for the listing.

The chosen colleges stood out in at least one of the 12 categories identified by The Chronicle as core attributes of a great academic workplace: collaborative governance; compensation and benefits; confidence in senior leadership; diversity; facilities, workspaces and security; job satisfaction; professional/career development programs; respect and appreciation; supervisor or department chair relationship; teaching environment; tenure clarity and process; and work/life balance.

The University of Texas at Austin was recognized in two categories: job satisfaction and supervisor or department chair relationships.

I'm not sure merely being recognized is something we should be all that proud of...maybe when we are honored in an area it will be worth posting on the website.

Check the full story. UT is ballyhooed for notice in 2 of 12 categories and didn't even make the honor roll for either at that. Well, there's always football... http://chronicle.com/section/Great-Colleges-to-Work-For/156/

I guess the Chronicle didn't ask any LGBTQ staff whether UT was great to work for. We are separate and unequal here without domestic partner benefits.

My Father, Eugene Lawrence Vykukal, certainly did enjoy working for the University of Texas College of Pharmacy after his retirement from the corporate world at Southwestern Drug Corporation, aka, Bergen Brunswig. God rest his soul, and God speed for the rest of us.

Now if the UT System would offer domestic partner benefits we'd be an even better place to work! We lose some of the best and brightest faculty and staff to peer institutions who are providing insurance to same-sex couples.
