TV spots inspire students to change the game

    Published: Nov. 21, 2011

When a university is as big and bold as The University of Texas at Austin, it’s only fitting that its branding and TV spots are, too.

Along with creative partner GSD&M, the university developed five new public service announcements (PSAs) to energize the “What Starts Here Changes the World” campaign, celebrate the university’s world-changing alumni and challenge students to aim higher. They feature the Tower as a 3-D puzzle, twisting and turning with images of former students emerging from the structure.

The fifth PSA, titled “Why,” debuted Saturday, Nov. 19 on the Longhorn Network.

Also, don’t miss the previous PSAs, titled “Awards,” “Footsteps,” “Look Up” and “Competition.”

The new PSAs will appear on TV channels such as Fox Sports, ABC and ESPN as well as the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium’s high-definition video scoreboard.

Sarek, I agree with you. The Cronkite-narrated ad is my favorite, too. The reason you won't see that ad run now is because it was for the last capital campaign UT had. The current capital campaign, a fund raising effort for $3 billion begun in 2008 and ending 2014, has new ads. The new ads (video shot on the tower) was also produced by GSD&M. New capital campaign + new ads = (hopefully) new inspiration for alumni, corporations and other individuals to give to UT. Hope this clarifies the need for new ads a bit.

no offense but the current iteration of commercials is not that inspiring to me... this lost video that never aired it needs to have playing time. This video, according to my friends, is simply the best commercial that truely speaks not only the impact of the university but of the city in which it lies. It really pays tribute to the school in the end. Please bring this on back to air... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCUkI0P6_20&feature=colike thank you, Sarek V. Cortez B.S & B.A 2005
