  • Class of 2013: What Starts Here Changes the World (Seriously)

    Published: May 13, 2013

Among the class of 2013 are some big thinkers and doers, people who grabbed their University of Texas experience from Day 1, seeking mentors, conducting research, earning leadership roles, forging connections and making big plans for their next chapters.

Click on the pictures below of Paulina, Rebekah, Leon, Jobby, Damilola, RebaWill and Isaac. These outstanding students (who have racked up some impressive awards and accolades) are not simply defined by their achievements. Rather, they are notable for their courage and determination, their focus and perseverance. These students, like so many of their classmates, are leaving an indelible mark on their alma mater, and we can’t wait to follow their next move.

I am a parent, my son just graduated from the Engineering School this year. Mr. Shadid Ullah, BS PE '82 was very impressive during the 2013 Engineering Commencemnent, he nailed it for the kids coming up. His presentation covered all the fundamental things about getting along in the work place/real world. He simplified those work reqrirements for the kids. Kudos to Mr. Ullah! Great guy, we thought he was a special person! Sincerely, Tom Ratway Plano, Texas

Congratulations to all of these graduates and thank you for sharing your inspiring stories! The fact that three of these students also participated in the Intellectual Entrepreneurship program not only demonstrates the possibilities and successes of this wonderful opportunity for students, but moreover it shows how the power of mentoring and equipping students to achieve their goals can foster positive changes within their communities. There is no doubt that all of these graduates will change the world!

What terrific stories! I am especially pleased to see that three of these students have been a part of UT’s Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) Pre Grad Internship program: Paulina Sosa (Philosophy and Psychology) was an IE Pre Grad intern and is President of the IE Citizen Scholars. Isaac Gomez (Theatre and Dance) was also an IE Pre Grad intern. Jobby John (Pharmacy) has served several times as IE graduate student mentor. I am proud of all three.
