On Display: Lifelike Exhibit Plays with Scale

From a giant milk carton to a tiny elevator lobby, the Blanton Museum’s new exhibit, Lifelike, makes you look closer at everyday objects in unexpected ways. See a slideshow.

A paper bag, an apple core, a doctor’s waiting room these everyday objects and locations don’t exactly come to mind when you think of beautiful works of art.

But that’s what makes Lifelike, a visiting exhibit currently on display at UT’s Blanton Museum of Art, so fascinating. Organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Lifelike showcases 75 works including painting, sculpture and video from the 1960s to the present, all with the same theme: taking commonplace objects and situations and reinterpreting them using unusual materials and sizes. Artists featured include Andy Warhol and Gerard Richter, among others.

Lifelike will be on display at the Blanton through September 22.
