One of the many things that marked Dr. Brockett was his sense of humor. I have rarely met a theatre scholar so bemused at the antics of theatre historians, theorists, performers, and artists. As a teacher, he was among the most demanding, and yet the most compassionate. In the years after I was one of his rather undistinguished students, we met occasionally for lunch or dinner--and he regaled me with tales of lasting interest--not just about theatre, but life itself. Here was a Brockett! When comes such another?
