February 25, 2011
Time:2:45-4 p.m.
Description:The Faculty Seminar on British Studies presents "George Bernard Shaw: Modernist," by David Kornhaber, Department of English. George Bernard Shaw has been called "the modernist that never was," a progressive Edwardian preserved in the modernist era. Yet Shaw's copious canon of plays and his writings on the theater itself can challenge definitions of modernism. What did Shaw have to say to his modernist contemporaries? Did his works help to change the understanding of art's relationship to the world at the dawn of the modernist epoch?
