| Description: | "The Shifting Place(s) of Black Identity and Inclusion in Twentieth-Century Colombia" will be presented by Dr. Jason McGraw, assistant professor of history, Indiana University. A scholar of slavery, colonialism and emancipation in the Atlantic world, McGraw's current research project is on black workers in Caribbean Colombia from the abolition of slavery in the 1850s to the 1950s. He examines how issues of local politics, labor struggles and popular religion shaped ideas of citizenship in this context. His published articles include "Purificar la nación: Eugenesia, higiene y renovación moral-racial de la periferia del Caribe colombiano, 1900-1930," in Revista de Estudios Sociales (August 2007). |
