Is an idea a thing? Art historian addresses query
"An Idea in a Thing? Seal Recarving and Histories of Art in the Ancient Near East" is presented by Joanna Smith, Department of Art and Archaeology, Princeton University. What do created objects suggest about who made them and why? Smith turns to thing theory to explore the concept of an "idea in a thing" and its significance for histories of art that rely almost exclusively on archaeological information.
