Austinato, UT's award-winning early music ensemble, presents the first U.S. performance of Domenico Sarro's "Dorina e Nibbio o L'impresario delle Canarie" (Dorina and Nibbio or the Impresario from the Canary Islands), a short operetta filled with humor in the spirit of the commedia dell'arte.
The intermezzo was the most popular comic entertainment in the first half of the 18th century. Sarro's "L'impresario" satirizes contemporary conventions and stereotypical behaviors in the world of opera.
This project was funded in part by the 2011/12 CLEG Grant offered by Early Music America.
