Description:
Historian Brands talks about the future of the dollar
H.W. Brands discusses "The Past, Present and Future of the Dollar" in "Game Changers," the interactive lecture series recorded for broadcast on the Longhorn Network that shares the university's intellectual talent beyond the classroom.

Each month, one of the university's most dynamic and inspirational faculty will provide fresh insight on topics that are relevant and interesting to the university community, the Austin community and the nation through the Longhorn Network.

Brands is the Dickson Allen Anderson centennial professor of history and government in the university's Department of History. He will outline America's varied attempts to create money, from gold to credit cards, and will give the historical context for the rise and eventual decline of the dollar among world currencies. What can the critics and creators of U.S. monetary policy learn from the history of the dollar in the world economy?
