| Description: | "Memory and Writing" is a talk by Lebanese author Iman Humaydan.
Humaydan speaks about the relationship between memory and writing in Lebanon today. In a country where reconciliation and speaking the truth about war atrocities have been difficult, artistic production such as novelistic writing plays a major role in exposing the unsaid through memory work.
Humaydan, who lives in Paris and Beirut, is a writer of novels, short stories and a freelance journalist. Her novels "B as in Beirut" and "Wild Mulberries" have been translated into English, French and German. Her latest novel, "Other Lives," is currently being translated into English and French.
The 2011-2012 Literary and Cultural Event Series is organized by the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and co-sponsored by the Program in Comparative Literature, the Department of English, the chair in Ethnic and Third World Literatures, the Center for European Studies and the Department of Religious Studies. This talk is co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the Arabic Flagship Program. |
