The Butler School of Music, in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University, commemorates Black History Month with a concert celebrating black composers of the past and present. Performers include the Huston-Tillotson Jazz Combo, the UT Concert Chorale, the Huston-Tillotson Concert Choir and the Prairie View A&M University Concert Choir. Composer/arranger Roland Marvin Carter guest conducts.
Carver is famous for his arrangement of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," commonly referred to as the black national anthem. His arrangement is the most widely performed version of the song and will be the highlight of the evening.
