| Description: | The Symposium on Gender, History, and Sexuality presents a viewing and discussion of "Anne Braden: Southern Patriot" by Anne Lewis, senior lecturer in the Department of Radio, Television, and Film.
"Anne Braden: Southern Patriot" uses the tools of personal and historical narrative to examine the power of a life transformed by commitment to social justice while providing insight into some of the most contentious and pivotal events and ideas in twentieth-century American history. Using her experiences as an example, Braden dedicated her life to awakening the consciousness of whites to the legacy of racial injustice, and demonstrated that racism is a social construct that can be deconstructed.
The Symposium on Gender, History, and Sexuality has been a fixture in Department of History since 2001, offering a forum for graduate students and faculty to present papers and works in progress for discussion in a relaxed and collegial atmosphere. |
