| Description: | Attend the regular weekly meeting of the UT Objectivism Society. This week, watch a screening of "Gattaca."
Tens of millions have read Ayn Rand's novels, including "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." But many do not know about the radical system of ideas underlying the stories she created. Standing alone when necessary, Rand defied the ideas of more than two millennia by championing individualism, capitalism, egoism and reason. She named her philosophy "Objectivism" because it proceeds from the axiom that "existence exists" and advocates objectivity in all areas - cognition, values, law, art and so forth. Rand described Objectivism as "a philosophy for living on earth." The UT Objectivism Society is a source for information, study and discussion of Rand's philosophy. |
