Description:Dr. Penne Restad, senior lecturer in the Department of History, presents "The Third Sex: Historians, Desire, and the Concept of the Consumer." To RSVP and receive a copy of the pre-circulated paper, contact Courtney Meador (cmeador@austin.utexas.edu) by 9 a.m., Friday, April 13.

Restad's research interests include the formation of American cultural identities and behaviors; material culture and consumption; and the intersection of gift and money economies in the late nineteenth century. Her book "Christmas in America: A History" was published in 1995 by Oxford University Press.
