| Description: | "There Was a Forest" is a lecture and slide show by photographer Loli Kantor, a fine art and documentary photographer based in Fort Worth, Texas.
Kantor was born in Paris, France, and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Buffalo, New York. She has a keen interest in cultures and community. Kantor's current project portrays the disappearing population of Holocaust survivors and their lives within the vanishing shtetls (small towns) of Eastern Europe. She also focuses on the reemergence of Jewish life and culture in Central and Eastern Europe. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, she brings a deeply personal interest, as well as unique sensibility, to this body of work. "There Was a Forest" explores the varied layers and strengths of a community that has survived shattering historical and cultural experiences.
Kantor's work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally in China, Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic. She works in black-and-white film and prints in traditional gelatin silver and platinum/palladium media. She is also a skilled digital photographer and fine art printer. |
