Senate is proud to offer two $500 scholarships to two qualifying students each semester. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have had a GPA below 2.75 at least two semesters ago and have since improved their GPA from that former GPA. Applicants must have made significant improvements to their GPA and taken steps to to ensure they retain this academic success.

Applications must be submitted to senateacademicimprovement@gmail.com with an unofficial transcript included. An academic summary (which can be attained at the Registrar's office) must also be turned in to the Senate Office (SAC 2.102) at the front desk. The National Children's Study (NCS) is a nationwide study whose overall goal is to better understand children's health and to improve the health and well-being of children. This study looks at the growth of children and seeks to learn how to better collect information about the diets, height, weight, leg and arm measurements of infants and young children.

The study consists of one questionnaire and a series of measurements collected on your child. These are conducted with standard medical/field equipment such as stadiometers/infantometers, weight scales, rulers, tape measures, paper grid and calipers. The questionnaire and measurements take approximately 30 minutes each to complete. Participants will be asked to add nonfat dairy products to their normal diet for four weeks and replace dairy products with fruit products for an additional four weeks. All food products provided free of charge.

To be eligible for participation, you must be a nonsmoker and not currently taking any blood pressure medications. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be participating in a study abroad program in accordance with their degree plan(s). Applicants must be available for an interview after the scholarship deadline and recipients will be expected to attend one of Senate's General Assembly meetings upon their return to discuss their experience abroad with the assembly. Current internal Senate members are ineligible to receive the scholarship. Eligible applicants include students assisting a faculty member with a research project, as well as students conducting independent or partnered research. Applicants must be enrolled for 12 hours of coursework at The University of Texas at Austin and be considered an undergraduate student by the Office of the Registrar.

One winner will receive a $1,000 prize from the Senate of College Councils in order to be used toward funding of his or her research. The grant recipient will be expected to compose a brief paper reflecting on the subsequent research experience at the end of the academic year.
