First-year students can now apply to be mentored through the Leadership Education and Progress program (LEAP). LEAP mentee applications for spring 2011 are due on Jan. 21 in the Student Organization Center by 5 p.m. Applications can be downloaded at http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/sald/leadership_leap_first.php. Through LEAP, students have the opportunity to meet influential leaders in the UT community and develop personal leadership skills, all while creating a large network among fellow student leaders. Program participants often go on to become involved in the many facets of leadership at UT.
Participating first-year students can expect to understand their individual leadership style; build a network of peers; learn about opportunities for involvement across campus; interact with prominent faculty, staff and community leaders; learn effective communication strategies; and build strong practices and principles for effective leadership.
