March 4, 2012
Time:7-9 p.m.
Description:Attend a youth orchestra concert by Austin Soundwaves, the first major initiative of the Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts. Inspired by El Sistema, Soundwaves provides intensive, high-quality orchestral music education to Austin youth completely free of charge.

Austin Soundwaves widens pathways to college and develops cultural participation among Austin's youth through high-quality, intensive orchestral music education. Austin Soundwaves launched in October 2011 by giving 41 students the opportunity to learn the violin, viola, cello or percussion. Students receive an instrument, as well as all supplies, lesson books and at least 10 hours of weekly instruction by expert teaching artists free of charge. Austin Soundwaves added woodwinds and brass instruments in early 2012, thereby increasing the number of students we are able to serve and creating a full symphony orchestra.
