Black Brazilians & the 19th-century press discussed
Ana Flavia Magalhães Pinto presents a lecture titled "Cidadãos letrados e a emergência da Imprensa Negra no Brasil durante o sêculo XIX," which explores the role of literate black Brazilians in creating a critical press. Presented in Portuguese. Light lunch served.

Magalhães Pinto is a Ph.D. candidate at the State University of Campinas. Her research focuses on the role that literate black Brazilians played in the creation of a critical press that could unveil abuses, discuss everyday racism and promote legal rights of black citizens in Brazil.
