Participants ages 30-80 with blood pressure higher than 120/80 are sought for a study on the effects of diet on blood pressure. Visits consist of four long appointments (1-2 hours) as well as additional brief visits to pick up supplies. Contact dairyintakestudy@gmail.com, or call 512-471-8594, for information. Payment is $200 for completing the study.  <br /><br />Participants will be asked to add nonfat dairy products to their normal diet for four weeks and replace dairy products with fruit products for an additional four weeks. All food products provided free of charge.<br /><br />To be eligible for participation, you must have high blood pressure. People currently on blood pressure medications are also eligible to participate in this study. <br /><br />Admission into this study is ongoing and new participants are accepted on a rolling basis.]]></description>

Photographer Arnold Newman (1918-2006) created iconic portraits of some of the most influential innovators, celebrities and cultural figures of the twentieth century. A bold modernist with a superb sense of compositional geometry, Newman is known for a crisp, spare style that situates his subjects in their personal surroundings rather than a studio. Closed Mondays. Visit link for museum hours.<br /><br />Newman&#39;s archive resides at the Ransom Center. Marlene Dietrich, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Arthur Miller, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso are only a few of his celebrated sitters. Featuring more than 200 of these well-known masterworks, &#34;Arnold Newman: Masterclass&#34; also includes rarely seen work prints and contact sheets. <br /><br /> <br /><br />The first major exhibition of the photographer&#39;s work since his death, the exhibit showcases the entire range of Newman&#39;s photography, featuring many prints for the first time.]]></description>

On April 24, an eight-story commercial building in the district of Savar, Bangladesh, collapsed, killing over 300 people, injuring at least 1,000 more and trapping many beneath the rubble. The Bengali Students Association teams with SpaandanB, a local charitable organization that aids Bangladesh, to raise funds for victims of this disaster by selling samosas on West Mall. <description><![CDATA[Wednesday, May 1, noon, Harry Ransom Center, 21st and Guadalupe streets.  The Harry Ransom Center presents &#34;Singers and Songwriters,&#34; the final Poetry on the Plaza event for the spring. Readers and performers include Amanda Cevallos, Michael Hall, Leo Rondeau and Sarah Sharp, all Austin-based singer/songwriters and performers.

Cevallos is a Latina country music songstress with retro style. She has had a residency at The Broken Spoke.

Hall is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. His most recent album is &#34;The Song He Was Listening to When He Died&#34; (2006).

Rondeau received a Songwriter of the Year nomination from the Academy of Texas Music for his record &#34;Down at the End of the Bar.&#34;

Sharp has side projects with the trippy-swingadelic 1930s rock band The Jitterbug Vipers and makes up one-half of the duo Kaliyo.]]></description>
