February 18, 2010
Time:6-7:30 p.m.
Description:The UT Objectivism Society will host a teleconference with Alex Epstein. Recently, Mr. Epstein has done a huge amount of research and speaking on oil and on John D. Rockefeller, the primary originator of the modern oil industry. Many of Mr. Epstein's essays and lectures are available for study here.

Epstein is a fellow focusing on business issues at the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights. He is an alumnus of Duke University, where he studied philosophy and computer science.

Bring your questions about any of Mr. Epstein's writings - how the oil industry developed, or is conducted and (over)-regulated now, its environmental implications, how it relates to other energy sources, etc. Mr. Epstein welcomes questions on general economics/business and capitalism, too.

In her novels such as "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead," and in eight nonfiction books and hundreds of articles and lectures, Ayn Rand presented her unique philosophy. She named it "Objectivism" because it proceeds from the axiom that "existence exists" and champions objectivity in all areas - cognition, values, law, art and so forth. She described Objectivism as "a philosophy for living on earth."

The UT Objectivism Society meetings and events are always free and open to the public. The society meets every Thursday while classes are in session at 6:00 p.m. in GAR 2.124.
Location:GAR 2.124
