Description:In 1870, James Clerk Maxwell proposed a thought experiment that became known as Maxwell's Demon. In a talk titled "Breaking Barriers with Maxwell's Demon," Professor Mark Raizen describes how we have realized Maxwell's Demon in the laboratory, and how it is being used to control
matter with light and to break the existing barriers of laser cooling, nanoscience and isotopes.
