| Description: | The Austin Forum on Science, Technology & Society presents "Teen Researcher: Discovering a New Treatment for Ovarian Cancer." A young researcher's scientific journey is about more than gaining knowledge; it is about holding onto awe and a sense of wonder in the approach to solving problems.
RSVP to info@austinforum.org.
A strong sense of wonder helped Shree Bose win the Grand Prize of the first ever Google Global Science Fair in the 17-18-year-old category. Support and mentorship were a critical element in Shree's path to success. Under the supervision of Dr. Alakananda Basu, Shree's award-winning project involved the study of a particular protein in cancer cells, AMP kinase. Shree investigated a new way to treat resistant patients when they no longer responded to the chemotherapy drug. The research has the potential to impact more than 240,000 patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer who are treated with particular chemotherapy drugs. Shree and Basu discuss how inspiration, dedication and mentorship led to life-enabling research. |
