Professor Milner's work in the use of light in diagnostics gives hope for a future where women can lay against a slanted stage with an opening for the breast to be suspended and scanned, replacing the current painful imaging which requires mashing the breast tissue to make images. A less painful, light driven device would encourage more women to get their breast exams allowing earlier detection of cancers and more options for treatment.
