John Beckworth

John Beckworth has been practicing law in Houston since 1983. Mr. Beckworth completed both his undergraduate and legal education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he received his B.A. in History with High Honors in1980 and his J.D. in 1983. Following admission to practice, he joined the Litigation Section of Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. where he was elected to partnership in 1992. He started his own law firm in 1994 and now concentrates his practice in international and domestic arbitration and commercial litigation, including energy and employment law.

Mr. Beckworth is licensed to practice by the State Bar of Texas, the U.S. District Courts in all Texas districts, the District of Arizona, the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Trial Law, a member of the College of the State Bar, and an Associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is listed in America’s Best Lawyers and has been named to Texas Monthly’s “Super Lawyers” list in each year of its publication to date. He is a member of the Houston and American Bar Associations and is a Life Fellow of the Houston and Texas Bar Foundations. He has been an Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas School of Law and a recipient of The University of Texas School of Law’s Honorary Order of the Coif. He is a past recipient of The University of Texas Ex-Students Association’s Outstanding Young Texas-Ex Award. He is a former President of the UT Law Alumni Association.

Mr. Beckworth has been a featured speaker and author on litigation topics for numerous continuing education programs sponsored by the University of Texas School of Law, the University of Houston School of Law, South Texas College of Law, the ABA, and a variety of professional and trade associations and journals. His list of civic activities is extensive. He is a former Chairman and Life Trustee of the Kinkaid School, and he is a member of the Board of Directors and President of the University of Texas Ex-Students’ Association.  In 2009 he was appointed to serve on the Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee.

Mr. Beckworth and his wife, Laura, who is a former practicing attorney and graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, reside in Houston and they have three sons, William, Carter, and John. They are members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
