In celebration of the acquisition of its symbolic Millionth Volume, the Jamail Center for Legal Research was host to the Language & the Law Conference on December 6 - 8, 2001. The Conference brought together an international group of legal scholars, historians, members of the judiciary, and practitioners to discuss the relationship between langauge and the law.
The Future of Music Coalition are advocates of musicians' rights in the post-Napster era. Jenny Toomey, recording artist and founder of the Coalition, discussed how current copyright law affects the ability of musicians to profit from their art in the future. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion with local and national experts in intellectual property and copyright law.
The legendary composer Philip Glass appeared at the University of Texas School of Law for a live interview with UT law professor Sandy Levinson and Dean Robert Freeman of the College of Fine Arts. The topic of conversation was: "The Composer as Performer, The Composer as Listener."
