Robert Pitman
United States Magistrate for the Western District of Texas


Robert Pitman is a United States Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Texas, sitting in the Austin Division. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge Pitman was with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas for thirteen years. During his tenure there, he served in a variety of positions, including Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of the Austin Division, Deputy U.S. Attorney and United States Attorney. He also spent a year on special detail to the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. A native of Fort Worth, Judge Pitman is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, after which the he clerked for U.S. District Judge David O. Belew, Jr. in Northern District of Texas and practiced with the law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski in Austin. In addition to his judicial duties, he is a lecturer in the Plan II Program at University of Texas at Austin, as well as in the Law School.
