The University of Texas at Austin

Interscholastic Competitions

The Advocacy Program sponsors many interscholastic mock trial and moot court teams. Each year, law schools from across the nation compete against each other in interscholastic competitions covering a vast array of topics. The University of Texas School of Law has had great success in interscholastic competitions, having won 12 national championships in the last ten years alone. Participation on an interscholastic team requires not only talent and skill but also tremendous commitment. Students who compete for The University of Texas have achieved and continue to maintain a level of excellence rarely matched.

During the fall, students are selected to field the teams for interscholastic mock trial (trial law), moot court (appellate law), and alternative dispute resolution competitions. The mock trial teams are selected through the annual Fall Litigation Institute. The moot court and alternative dispute resolution teams are selected through the fall intramural competitions hosted by the Board of Advocates. Although only second- and third-year law students are eligible to compete on interscholastic teams, there are opportunities for first-year students to become involved as well.
