The University Co-op Public Interest Summer Fellowships support students who work between their second and third years for sponsoring public interest legal organizations. The program provides summer stipends for four to six students. Sponsoring organizations are tax-exempt non-profits providing legal services and/or advocacy to underrepresented individuals or communities. Students are required to work a minimum of 280 hours.
This program was created in response to the particular need of 2Ls to work in a public interest position during the summer before their third year of school in order to be viable candidates for public interest fellowships and jobs following graduation. Fellows are selected based on their credentials, their commitment to public interest law, and the sponsoring organization.
This program is funded by a generous grant from the University Co-op.
