The University of Texas at Austin

I. Full-year LL.M programs

The law school has two established exchange programs that are full year and allow a student to earn the LLM concurrently with their JD. Students may earn up to 28 hours credit toward the JD.

Students complete a JD and also an LLM, both of these programs begin late September through August of the following year. Although the teaching year ends early June, the student must work on the required thesis during the summer while remaining at the host University. UT graduation will be in August.

II. Semester-long programs

Students may earn up to 14 hours credit towards the JD per semester. Pursuant to ABA requirements, no more than four UT students may study for credit at the same foreign law school during the academic year.

Students may participate in these programs during the Fall or Spring semester of their third year, with preferences being in the Fall. Please be aware that the results of studies taken in the Spring may not be reported in time for May graduation; in this case, you must register "in absencia" for the summer and graduate in August.
