The Tax Program is one of the special strengths of the University of Texas School of Law. The U.S. News and World Report has consistently ranked the law school as one of the top 10 tax programs in the nation. This year, the program is ranked 6th, which is the highest rank for any law school that does not offer a post-graduate LLM program specializing in tax.
The philosophy of the tax department at U.T. Law is that we give the best service to a law student for the full course of his or her career by teaching the policy and theory underlying the tax law. Students are best able to adapt to the rapid changes in details that inevitably take place in tax law, no matter what direction the tax law moves, if they have a sound understanding of tax fundamentals and of policy and theory.
Tax law affects virtually everyone and will remain an important economic consideration for most clients for at least the next generation.
Tax courses at the University of Texas Law School are taught overwhelmingly by full Professors who are distinguished national scholars. While the Law School does use experienced practitioners with special expertises as adjuncts, Texas students will take almost all their tax courses from distinguished Professors working full time for the Law School.
