Application Information

Applicants to the LL.M. program may download the application. However, the application may not be submitted electronically. The application and required documents must be submitted in hard copy format by regular mail or courier service.

Applicants have the option to pay the application fee online with a major credit card or include a cashier’s check or money order in the application packet.

The application deadline is February 1.  Please submit the following items:

  1. An application form *, with each question answered fully in English. Applicants may fill out the application PDF file on the computer and print it out, or print out the blank application and fill it in by hand.
  2. Official law school transcripts (mark sheets) showing courses, grades and award of degree. If the transcript is not in English, a certified translation in English must be included. Applicants may submit sealed transcripts with the application packet or through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) LL.M. Credential Assembly Service.
  3. Three letters of recommendation, with translations into English. We do not use a recommendation form.
  4. The $75 nonrefundable application fee. Fee may be paid online with a credit card or paid by certified check, cashier's check or money order enclosed in the application packet. The check must be payable to The University of Texas at Austin and drawn on a U.S. bank.
  5. An official score report on either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or The International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) if your native language is not English.
    1. TOEFL—a minimum IBT score of 100, a CBT score of 250, or PBT score of 600. Applicants should arrange to have an official TOEFL score report sent directly to the Law School or to LSAC if using the LL.M. Credential Assembly Service. Our institution code is 6882 03.
    2. IELTS —a score of 7 or better may be submitted instead of a TOEFL score. Applicants should arrange to have an official IELTS score report sent directly to the Law School, LL.M. Program Coordinator.

A TOEFL score is not required for applicants who hold a law degree from a U.S. law school.  Applicants who hold a law degree from a law school in a country in which English is the primary language and the primary language of instruction, may request consideration of a TOEFL waiver.
