* Health Insurance

All international students are required to purchase coverage under the University of Texas endorsed student health insurance plan. Individual student minimum mandatory coverage will cost approximately $1100 per year. New students have an additional insurance fee of $92 to cover the 30 days prior to the first class day. Enrollment in the mandatory insurance plan is automatic for students, with the fee added directly to the student’s fee bill.

Health insurance coverage is optional for accompanying spouse and children of F-1 visa holders, but strongly encouraged. Spouse insurance coverage is $3203 and child coverage is $1730. The child coverage includes one or more children.

Health insurance coverage is mandatory for accompanying spouse and children of J-1 visa holders, under Department of State regulations.
Insurance coverage for spouse and children is not included in the student’s tuition bill.  Coverage must be purchased separately from United Healthcare Student Resources.

Health insurance coverage for U.S. citizens and permanent residents is optional. Coverage may be purchased separately from United Healthcare Student Resources on the University Health Services website.

Students may be eligible to waive the cost of the student health insurance plan if qualifying alternate insurance is presented to the International Office by the appropriate deadline.

Additional information, including tuition waiver information, is available on the International Office website.

Financial Aid

Admitted applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for financial aid. Students may qualify for financial aid for the 24 credit hours required to obtain the LL.M. degree. Federal regulations will NOT permit students to borrow funds in excess of the total amount of the attendance budget.

Interested students should contact the Law School’s financial aid office at (512) 232-1130 or LawFinAid@law.utexas.edu.

International students must have sufficient funding to finance the full course of study, through personal resources, government or private funding. Scholarships and financial aid for foreign students are not generally available through the Law School. However, we are usually able to offer a few partial scholarships. All admitted applicants are considered for these scholarships.

International students are encouraged to seek financial aid and scholarship funds from sources in their home countries. For assistance in locating sponsoring organizations, contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, or the U.S. Information Agency in your country.
