Interscholastic Competitions

The Advocacy Program sponsors several interscholastic mock trial teams. Each year, law schools from across the nation compete against each other in interscholastic competitions covering a vast array of topics. The University of Texas School of Law has had great success in interscholastic competitions, having won 12 national championships in the last ten years alone. Participation on an interscholastic team requires not only talent and skill but also tremendous commitment. Students who compete for The University of Texas have achieved and continue to maintain a level of excellence rarely matched.

During the fall, students are selected to field the teams for interscholastic mock trial (trial law) competitions. The mock trial teams are selected through the annual Fall Litigation Institute. Only second- and third-year law students are eligible to be on the interscholastic mock trial team. First-year students interested in mock trial should sign up to serve as bailiffs and witnesses in one of the intramural mock trial competitions hosted by the Board of Advocates.
