Alistair B. Dawson

Alistair Dawson is a partner with Beck, Redden & Secrest and has a practice complex  business and commercial litigation. He was recognized by Texas Monthly both as a “Rising Star” and a “Super Lawyer” in the legal profession for the years 2003-2009.  He has also been identified as one of the top commercial trial lawyers in Houston by H Texas Magazine.  From 2005 to the present, Chambers USA recognized Mr. Dawson as one of the leading litigators in the State of Texas.

Mr. Dawson graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1986 with a degree in International Economics and International Business. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1989, where he served as an editor of the Texas Law Review and was a member of the Chancellor's Society. He was admitted to practice law in Texas in 1989, is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Texas, the United States Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

He is active in several national and regional bar associations as well as other law-related educational and professional organizations. He is a member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Business Litigation and Corporate Counsel Committee of the American Bar Association, and Chair of the State Bar Litigation Council. He is also a Board member of the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, and a Fellow with the Texas Bar Foundation. He was a member of the State Bar Litigation Section Committee on Jury Selection from 1998-2002, the State Bar of Texas CLE Committee from 2001-2006 and 2007-present, and is Past-Chair of the Antitrust Section of the Houston Bar Association. From 1998-2000, he was a member of the HBA Administration of Justice Committee and the HBA Planning Committee.

Formerly a chair of the Capital Campaign for The Parish School, a non-profit school for children with special needs, he also served on the school’s  Board of Directors from 1999-2004 and from 1998-2002 as Chair of the Underwriting Committee. He has received the Distinguished Service Award for his service at The Parish School. Mr. Dawson has also served on the Board of Directors for Literacy Advance of Houston, a Committee Member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and was Vice-Chairman for the Chair Development Committee with Theatre Under the Stars. In 2004 and 2007, Mr. Dawson received the State Bar of Texas Presidential Citation.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Mr. Dawson came to the United States in the late 1960s. He enjoys golf, traveling, theatre and coaching his kids' soccer and basketball teams.  He is married to Wendy King Dawson and has four children.
