Steven C. James graduated from The University of Texas School of Law, with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1979. He earned his Bachelor of Accountancy (with honors) in 1976 from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Mr. James is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law (1993) and Consumer and Commercial Law (1995) by The Texas Board of Legal Specialization. From 1979-1985, he was an attorney for Mesa Petroleum Co. From 1986-1988, he was a Partner in a large El Paso based law firm running their Midland office. From 1988-1994, he was a Partner in a small law firm in El Paso. He has been a Solo Practitioner in El Paso since January, 1995. He specializes in Consumer and Commercial Litigation, Employment Discrimination and Termination, Construction Litigation, Personal Injury and International Litigation.
Mr. James’ professional activities include: Medium Sections Representative to the State Bar Board of Directors from June, 2010 - 2013; Former Chair, Board of Directors, The College of the State Bar of Texas (2007-2008); Former President, El Paso Bar Association (2004-2005); Former Chair, Consumer and Commercial Law Section, State Bar of Texas (2005-2006); Former Chair, West Texas Employment Lawyers’ Association; Former President, El Paso Trial Lawyers’ Association; and has been Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers for Martindale-Hubbell since 2001. Mr. James has been appointed to serve on the Texas Pattern Jury Charge Committee-Business and Employment beginning June 2013. He is a Texas Bar Foundation Fellow, American Bar Foundation Fellow, and is listed as a Texas Super Lawyer from 2006-2013.
