movie screening: "No Way Out But One" Come join the UT Law School Domestic Violence Clinic and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid in screening “No Way Out But One” followed by a discussion.
“In 1994, Holly Collins felt she had run out of legal options and there was simply no other way to keep her children safe. So she kidnapped her own kids and went on the run. Hunted by the FBI, she and the children lived in the shadows with the help of a loosely organized ‘underground’ that helped victims of domestic violence and abuse find safety. Holly ultimately found safety in the Netherlands. There she became the first American to be granted asylum by the Dutch government as a result of domestic violence.”
After the movie, we’ll talk about the many issues it raises - ethical lawyering, international parental kidnapping, the intersection between domestic violence and child abuse, and the treatment of domestic violence by the courts.
Bring your friends! Snacks and drinks will be provided!! Full event information: https://www.utexas.edu/law/calendar/2012/10/17/15292/ - 6:00pm 2012-10-17T19:00-05:00
