    Changes in TX After Affordable Care Act

    The Health Law & Bioethics Society and Federalist Society will host Ms. Ann Dunkelberg from the Center for Public Policy Priorities and Mrs. Arlene Wohlgemuth from the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Ms. Dunkelberg and Mrs. Wohlgemuth will speak on the policies the State of Texas envisions in light of the Affordable Care Act. Professor Bill Sage will moderate.

    Cultivating University-Community Engagem

    Please join us for a half-day forum on university engagement with communities. Highlighting recent case studies involving UT faculty and students, the forum offers an opportunity for meaningful discourse about cultivating effective community engagement relationships and a chance to assess the strengths and challenges of community-university partnerships. The forum will bring together faculty, students, administrators, and community members who are engaged in this work and in a position of influence teaching, policy, and practice. Scott J. Peters, Co-Director at Imagining America, will deliver the keynote, followed by case studies, interactive breakout sessions, and final reconvening. The day will end with a reception and poster session featuring student projects.     FUNDAMENTALS OF OIL, GAS AND MINERAL LAW

    UT Law's Fundamentals of Oil, Gas and Mineral Law brings together a distinguished faculty of both academics and practitioners for a series of presentations designed to provide a comprehensive overview of oil and gas legal issues.

    The program opens with the definitive primer on how to drill an oil or gas well and continues with sessions on the Rule of Capture; oil and gas interests; a four-session look at the oil and gas lease including classification, royalty valuation, implied covenants and other clauses; conveyancing; and the Joint Operating Agreement.

    Protecting Privacy

    David Vladeck, outgoing Director of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection, Georgetown Law Professor, and Co-Director of the Institute for Public Representation at Georgetown Law, will discuss some of the challenges confronting Congress and the Executive as they seek to address consumer privacy concerns in today's digital economy, as well as specific intiatives that the FTC undertook to protect consumer privacy during his tenure at the agency.     TMLS Banquet

    TMLS concludes each year with an annual banquet honoring our outgoing third-year members who have dedicated their time and efforts, the African-American legal community, and our donors for their distinguished support of the organization and the community. We also extend invitations to the admitted students in the hopes that we can welcome them into the fold, let them know who we are, and share what they can b a part of before they set foot in the law school in the fall.
